Lanzarote´s ocean of fire: you won´t get back up to the surface…
Transparency and an optimum temperature to host all kind of life. A rich sea bottom that is characterized by the relief, which is the manifestation of our volcanic origin. A fascinating world of grottos, bends and riffs that can be discovered among beautiful colors. Sunken ships and art - yes, literally art. Down here, there is no noise. Down here, you only hear yourself breathing. Today, we invite to float with us in a universe that has nothing to envy other spots around the planet: Lanzarote´s sea bottom.
When we think about spending vacations in the Canary Islands, pictures of beautiful beaches and singular volcanic formations come to our mind. However, we often forget that there is an amazing underwater world. In particular, Lanzarote´s sea bottom enjoys a great biodiversity of an incalculable value, which has led to its denomination of Marine Reserve. Doubtlessly, Puerto del Carmen is a major point of interest for diving lovers due to its richness and the variety of its immersions. The area of El Muellito and Playa Chica is an easy-level spot and ideal for snorkeling, getting the baptism or for your first immersions by day or by night. The abundant underwater life in this area of more than 10 different routes with diverse levels is just impressive. During the night, the fauna changes entirely and the sandbank turns into a beautiful colored garden. For those who might dare, there are other medium-level spots. For example, the Veril de los Fariones is an underwater cliff in Playa Grande that stands out for its depth and the height of its walls. It is the place with the largest slope near to the coast and no doubt, it is a dream for divers: devil rays, dolphins or turtles are waiting for you here.
However, one the most famous and more complete immersions of the island is the one called Catedral (cathedral). In its large sandbanks and its caves you will discover different kinds of fauna and even a shipwreck. At the Barranco del Quíquere you will find sunken fishing boats of the last century… Quite an adventure! Talking about adventures… The Agujero Azul (blue hole) is quite a highlight. This tunnel will take you to dizzying depths. We won´t be reveal anything else… it will be one of your best discoveries during your stay at Apartamentos THe Oasis, Apartamentos THe Las Gaviotas and Apartamentos THe Morromar.
If you are staying at Hotel THe Volcán Lanzarote or at Hotel THe Mirador Papagayo you can also dive at spectacular spots in Playa Blanca. The unique beauty of Las Coloradas is astonishing. Under the famous cornice that is characteristic of this place, a sea of life is hidden in the rocks that look like hand-carved. El Emisario is another singular immersion spot. The large tubes of a submarine emissary are your guide for this route that shows the most important species of the Canarian marine fauna. Another spot that stands out for its ease and the variety of the fish in it is Playa Flamingo. The abundance of its fauna and its luminosity make us get surprised again and again. Here, there is always something new to discover… However, possibly the most impressive attraction of Lanzarote is the Atlantic Museum, which was created by Jason de Cayres Taylor (photo 4). The museum is located in Bahía de Las Coloradas, approximately 15 meters deep and quite a spectacle. We won´t reveal anything more about it; we want you to discover this experience by yourself.
Get immersed in this thrilling world during your stay with us. Once you have discovered this underwater universe, you won´t get back up to the surface… Or maybe you do, for breathing and getting immersed again… Or maybe you do, to keep dreaming with these waters when you fall asleep in our bed after this intensive day under the sea.
