Today, we want to share this celebration with you and tell you more about our tradition. An exciting afternoon, a waiting nighttime full of hope and an awakening bearing laughter and joy. Are you in?
In Spain, the celebration of the arrival of the Three Kings begins in the afternoon of January 5th. In every city, in every village, hundreds of people fill the streets to welcome the Kings in the parade, and hope to get some Candy or a tiny gift. Christmas lights and carols brightening the ambience: Melchior, Caspar and Balthazar are coming on camel or on floats and throw gifts for the little and the big ones. Everyone takes the opportunity to make a last wish or give their wishes list to the favorite King. On this night before going to bed, the children leave their shoes in a visible spot for the Three Kings, as well as a glass of water and candy for Their Majesties, and grass for the camels.
On the next morning, the Three King´s generosity is confirmed. Children and adults discover with great enthusiasm that the Kings have eaten the candy and drunken the water, and the camels have also eaten their grass. And again this year, they have been as generous as always. There are gift in and out of the shoes. And for those who have not behaved well this year, there is coal! This familiar day ends with the traditional Kings cake (Roscón de Reyes, photo 02), a round cake decorated with fruits that symbolize the precious stones of the King´s dresses. The cake contains a figure of a king and a bean. Whoever finds the figure in its piece is crowned as “the king of the house”, and whoever finds the bean has to pay for the whole cake.
On January 5th, we invite you to enjoy this tradition on the streets und let yourself be driven by the stars that announce the arrival of Their Majesties. From Hoteles THe, we wish you a happy stay full of “royal” magic… Happy Three Kings Day!
