Hoteles THe, with the women of the 21st century
“It is easier building strong girls than repairing broken women”. Gloria Poyatos, Magistrate of the Canarian High Court of Justice and president of the Association of Spanish female judges, opened the conference “The woman in the 21st century” with this clear message on Tuesday 23th March 2018. Hoteles THe, sensitive to the fight of women of this century, was present in this event that was organized by the radio station SER Las Palmas and took place at the Auditorium Alfredo Kraus in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Different women, key figures on different areas of the Canarian society, met to present data about inequality between men and women and pointing to the need for educating and teaching the society on the way towards equality. In the end, it is about unlearning what has been learned.
The mixed-format event featured a 15 minutes long presentation of the main guest, Gloria Poyatos, followed by the dialogue of María Salud Gil (Vicepresident of the Canarian Entrepreneurs Confederation and President of the Construction Association), Beatriz López Valcárcel (first female professor of the Canary Islands, expert in economy) and Esther Martín (Workers Commission CCOO: Spokeswoman for Women Union Action). The guests exchanges points of view about salary gap vs. Social gap, male violence, about how reversing the role men have acquired educationally and culturally throughout history, and about women having Access to powerful positions. We congratulate SER Las Palmas for their commitment to the fight for equality between men and women, and we heartfelt thank them for inviting us to walk together along this road.
