El Médano: a delight in the cradle of Montaña Roja

El Médano: a delight in the cradle of Montaña Roja

It needs no further explanation. It is simply one of the most charming and beautiful beaches of Tenerife. Its name “médano” means “dune” and does justice to the spectacle you will find in the coastal town in the South of the island: a fine sand and chestnut colored beach with the sublime Montaña Roja (Red Mountain) as a backdrop.

As its name suggests, this 750 meters long famous beach is located in the village of El Médano, in the town of Granadilla de Abona. The Atlantic azure waters, the mixture of brown and ocher colors of its sand, and the reddish volcano that rises at its end paint a unique picture. This landscape invites us to enjoy Tenerife's sun and a refreshing bath. El Médano proudly shows its prestigious Blue Flag award due to its excellent conditions and services.

However, this space holds further richness: its incredible waves. For lovers of water sports, this is definitely paradise. The canary wind often embraces its coast, making this beach an excellent area for surfing, windsurfing, paddle surfing, and kite flying. No surprise that El Médano is host of prestigious championships in these disciplines, such as the World Championship of Windsurfing and Kitesurfing. Far from those seeking adrenaline pirouetting on the sea, in the area closest to the village and with less waves you will enjoy a nice relaxing family day. Likewise, in its traditional Canarian village of bohemian atmosphere and its promenade you will find restaurants, cafes, markets and craft stands: everything to round off your day in El Médano during your stay at Hotel THe La Quinta Roja Senses Collection.
