Las Palmas, sea city
Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is the capital of the island. A cosmopolitan city that faces the sea and has an urban beach which is the favorite place of its citizens: the beach of Las Canteras. You can go for a walk on its promenade and you will find a lovely atmosphere at any time of day. In one of its ends, the Cicer, you can find the Alfredo Kraus auditorium, where the most important winter music festival of Europe is celebrated.
The city has so much to offer. In the North there is the monumental neighborhood of Vegueta, the old part of town, where the cathedral of Santa Ana is found. It is a vital neighborhood of traditional and commercial architecture. The street of Triana has all these qualities.
Close by is the house of the writer Benito Pérez Galdós, which today is a museum and a centre for cultural activities. Also in the area, next to the cathedral, you can see the Casa de Colón and the Centro Atlántico de Arte Moderno (Atlantic Centre for Modern Art).
Like in most European cities, there is a touristic bus that goes around the main points of interest for visitors.
