The sweet taste of the inland
The town of Tejeda, on the top of Gran Canaria, is an area famous for its local prestigious sweets, rich in original flavours and traditions. Almonds are the primary element of a varied confectionary. They are the main ingredient of a typical Canarian dessert, called "Bienmesabe", which literally means "it tastes good". This special treat has a sweet taste, and is usually served with ice-cream.
Confectionary is an important production for the Tejeda citizens, and it attracts many to visit the town. You will find specialized shops who sell only this kind of product.
Another tradition that we recommend is to go to the top of the island and enjoy good meat in one of the many restaurants with terrace that you will find along the way.
Goat and kid meat as well as veal are prepared exquisitely. You will find in the menu typical dishes like potato broth and watercress soup. You will also be able to try a roasted suckling pig or lamb.
