Cofete: the distant atlantic
If you want to feel like on a wild and lonely island on the Atlantic Ocean, there is a place in the Canaries that you shall not miss: The beach of Cofete in the South of Fuerteventura.
More than 10 km of a virgin and intense beach will make you experience space and pure nature. The walk through this coast is wonderful. The breeze caresses you, you enjoy the silence and find yourself as you were a lonely and adventurous traveller. It is quite difficult to get there, but it is well worth it. You will find the way signed from Morro Jable village.
So that you can sketch it on your mind before arriving, you can make a short stop at the La Degollada lookout, which offers a beautiful panoramic view of Cofete.
When you are on the shore, it is important you remember to be cautious with the sea because it is a strong current area.
Near the small village of Cofete, in the middle of nowhere but with privileged views, is found the mysterious and enigmatic Winter house. There are many legends about that mansion that was built by a German general.
On the village you can have a tasty paella or a typical ‘caldo de pescado’, a tasty fish soup.
